My first mix since 2023. A lot has happened in the years between, and in some ways, this feels like a record of everything I've absorbed along the way.

My time in Berlin left its mark on me, particularly its darker sonic undercurrents: dub techno, industrial, doom, and the stranger, more subterranean edges of dubstep. This mix draws from all of them.

Katabasis is the ancient Greek word for a descent into the underworld. In mythology, it's a journey into darkness, an encounter with the unknown, and, sometimes, a return to the world above.

I wanted the music to follow that same trajectory.

Somewhere between a DJ mix, a soundscape, and a journey through the music that's stayed with me over the last few years.

The first of the Enochian Calls, the angelic incantations delivered to John Dee and Edward Kelley in Cracow in 1584, performed here as a working of ritual music. Lika Starinets carries the Call in the angelic language itself, her voice moving over Jake's composition and arrangement: a deep, smokey production made in Bali, with additional production and mixing by Clint Dorman at Helicon Sound Labs in Tampaksiring.

The Calls are keys to the Aethyrs, the concentric realms of consciousness that map the universe in the Enochian system. Recited in trance, they are meant to open vision, insight, and prophecy. This recording is best heard the way it was made: in a meditative state, in a dark room, on headphones, in a ritual setting.

VOID:ZEN is where the DJ set becomes ceremony. Jake builds a temple out of low end: snakey, serpentine basslines, incense-thick atmosphere, and long, patient descents into the deep end of underground music, played live as an offering rather than a performance.

This live set, recorded at MANTIC and released through VūMantra Records on their Vūdcast series, captures VOID:ZEN in the wild.
