Estel Giclee Canvas Reproduction

This painting is titled “Estel,” an elven word from JRR Tolkien’s invented languages of Quenya and Sindarin that means “hope” or “trust.” In Tolkien’s work, it is a philosophical concept that is best understood as trust or “faith,” and the hope that comes from it. Estel refers to the belief that the Creator of the Universe, God or The Divine, is good and that his designs for his creatures will ultimately be good as well, despite the troubles that seem to plague the world. The concept of Estel relates to the ability to appreciate “the Unmarred that beings of the world discern in the Marred,” meaning that there is an undefinable essence of divinity in all things, even in that which may seem tarnished or broken.
