I started this painting in Iquitos, Peru last March at Caya Shobo retreat center in a traditional shipibo dieta and a painting workshop with Luis Tamani and Ruysen Flores. During this time we were drinking the powerful Amazonian plant medicine Ayahuasca almost every night and painting during the day. The painting was a way to integrate the experiences I was having with the medicine and to communicate the lessons being taught to me through the medicine. The medicine was wild and ferocious like the jungle we were residing in. It taught me many things but most enforced the importance of strength, stability, warriorship, and discipline, lessons which I am still working to integrate now almost a year later. The jungle environment was intense and I have an amazing memory of painting by candlelight during a raging jungle rainstorm under the full moon with Luis and Roysen and my friend Sheera. I wanted to communicate this intensity through the painting and all of those memories and experiences are stored within it. I hope you enjoy.
